Can extensions slip out? Distinguish slipping from breakage

Finding an extension strand in your hand can make you wonder whether the others will follow. At PLATİN Antalya, we first listen to what happened and distinguish a complete detached strand from loose hairs or breakage. Instead of reassuring you with a fixed number or blaming aftercare, we assess fitting and wearing conditions and explain the appropriate next step.

The short answer

Extension strands can slip; zero loss cannot be promised. What matters is identifying the type of loss, when it began and whether it is recurring. Those details help us establish the scope of a check and any appropriate corrective work.

At a glance

  • Keep the detached strand with its attachment.
  • Tell us when it started and how often it happens.
  • Arrange a check instead of refitting it yourself.

What can the detached strand tell us?

A strand with its whole attachment, loose hairs in a brush and short broken fibres are different observations. Take a photograph if possible and bring the strand to your check. Naturally shed hairs can accumulate in bonds, but we do not automatically attribute every loss to this. We inspect the attachment position and your own hair together.

Review several possible factors

Fitting, load distribution, product compatibility, styling heat, care and refitting intervals may all contribute. One strand alone does not establish the quality of all the hair. Nor should every slip be blamed on care. Both application and wearing conditions need review, ideally by inspecting the actual attachment.

Record the context, not just a count

Write down when it started, how often it happened and how long ago fitting took place. Photograph the strand and bond. A fixed acceptable loss count is unhelpful without initial strand quantity and total weight. A short record shared with the salon helps establish the pattern and plan an appropriate check.

Avoid changing the attachment yourself

Do not refit a slipped strand using random glue, heat or compression. Pulling other bonds to test them may also complicate assessment. Keep the strand and contact your salon. Seek review promptly for pain, irritation or concerning hair loss, and dermatology advice when appropriate.

Address the cause, not only the missing strand

Repeated slipping may need more than replacing a strand. At PLATİN Antalya, we assess attachment, quantity, products and refitting needs, explaining proposed work and its cost before proceeding. Bring the fitting date and details of the changes you noticed so we can choose an appropriate response rather than unnecessary intervention.

Common questions

Is zero strand loss guaranteed?

No such guarantee can be given. We assess attachment and wearing conditions and explain the options for your particular situation.

How many lost strands are normal?

There is no universal number. Initial quantity, time since fitting and the form of the detached strand are considered together.

Can I refit a lost strand myself?

Do not glue, heat or compress it yourself. Keep the strand and arrange a check to establish whether refitting is appropriate.

Start with the right check for slipping

When booking, tell us that you already wear extensions and have lost a strand. At our Lara salon, we can explain checks, correction or removal after assessing the attachments and your routine. Do not delay dermatology advice for pain or noticeable hair loss.
